James Lahey est un artiste canadien vivant et travaillant à Toronto. Il a obtenu un baccalauréat de l'Université York en 1984 et a complété des études en art et architecture en Italie (1982) par le biais d'un program commun entre l'Université York de Toronto et l'Université Lowell du Massachusetts. En 1986, il a obtenu un certificat de l'O.M.A. en préservation de l'art. Après avoir complété ses études, James a négocié carrière et vocation, entre-autre en occupant des postes à la Art Gallery de Harbourfront, The Power Plant, Le Musée des beaux-arts de l'Ontario et Bruce Mau Design. Depuis 1998, James se concentre exclusivement sur la pratique de sa peinture.

En 2001, James a été élu à l'Académie royale canadienne. Il  est aussi membre du Conseil d'administration de la Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery, à Toronto, où il est co-président du comité de développement et un membre de la commission des acquisitions pour le Cabinet des estampes du Musée des beaux-arts de l'Ontario.

James Lahey est représentée par des galeries à travers le Canada, la Grande-Bretagne et les États-Unis, où son travail se trouve dans de nombreuses collections privées et publiques. En 2005, le Musée MacLaren a installé son exposition "Index" et a publié un répertoire du même nom, avec la contribution d’Ihor Holubizky et Mark Kingwell. En 2007, "Index" a été installé à l'Art Center de l’Université de Toronto. En 2008, James a présenté des expositions individuelles à New York et à Londres où l’ouvrage "Votre histoire imparfaite» a été publié dans le cadre de l'exposition par Flowers Gallery (Royaume-Uni). Son prochain projet, "Made in USA", sera présenté à Atlanta, par la Galerie Gold Fay au printemps 2009; un catalogue écrit par Mark Kingwell accompagnera l'exposition.

James Lahey is a Canadian artist living in Toronto where he maintains his studio.  He completed his BFA at York University in 1984 with studies in Art and Architecture in Italy (1982) through a joint programme with York University, Toronto and Lowell University, Massachusetts. In 1986 he obtained a certificate from the O.M.A. in the preservation of Art and Artifacts. Upon graduation, James negotiated career and vocation, including positions at The Art Gallery at Harbourfront, The Power Plant, The Art Gallery of Ontario and Bruce Mau Design. Since 1998 James has concentrated exclusively on his painting practice.

In 2001 James was elected to the Royal Canadian Academy. James is a Member of the Board of Directors at the Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery in Toronto where he is co-chair of the development committee and is a Member of the Acquisitions Committee for the Prints and Drawings Department of the Art Gallery of Ontario.

James Lahey is represented in galleries across Canada, in Britain and the United States where his work can be found in numerous private and public collections. In 2005 the MacLaren Museum installed his “Index” exhibition and published a catalogue of the same name with contributions by Ihor Holubizky and Mark Kingwell. In 2007 “Index” was installed at The University of Toronto Art Centre. In 2008 James opened one person shows in New York and in London where “your imperfect history” was published in conjunction with the exhibition by Flowers U.K. His next project “Made in USA” will open in Atlanta at the Fay Gold Gallery in the spring of 2009—a catalogue written by Mark Kingwell will accompany the exhibition.
