Né en Ecosse en 1964, Stephen Conroy a étudié au Glasgow School of Art de 1982 à 1987. Depuis ses tout débuts, l'oeuvre de Conroy témoigne d'une maturité remarquable, tant émotive que technique, expliquant le succès éblouissant de cet artiste sur la scène internationale. Connu pour ses portraits masculins énigmatiques, fortement austères et très contrastés, son travail se retrouve dans plusieurs musées européens majeurs, de même qu'au Metropolitan Museum of Art à New York. Sous la couverture d'un certain classicisme, l'oeuvre, situant le personnage dans le contexte actuel, demeure très contemporaine et touchante. La Galerie de Bellefeuille est la seule galerie canadienne à représenter Stephen Conroy.

Born in 1964 in Scotland, Stephen Conroy graduated from the Glasgow School of Art in 1987. From the very beginning, his work has shown remarkable maturity, both emotionally and technically, which has led to a dazzling sequence of international successes. Known for strikingly austere, enigmatic portraits, his work can be found in many major European museums including the Metropolitan Museum of New York. Although classical in their approach, Conroy's paintings are undeniably contemporary and very moving, dealing with man in his present context.
